A rookie defenceman for the Sarnia Sting is getting recognized for his impressive performance this Ontario Hockey League season.
The team has signed Dracen Campbell, a native of Wallaceburg, to a standard player agreement.
The 19-year-old has tallied five assists in six games this year.
He played AAA in Lambton and also with the Mooretown Flags of the PJHL.
Last year, Campbell was with the Prince George Spruce Kings in the BCHL, where he put up 17 points in 52 games.
“Signing here means so much to me,” said Campbell. “Growing up and watching Sting games, it’s a dream come true. It’s been a long journey, and I’ve been trying to grind my way out. Now that I’m here, it feels great.”
Sting General Manager Dylan Seca praised Campbell’s reliability and smooth skating ability.
“He’s a calm decision maker who can defend. He shows up and gives everything he has every time. He’s just a great teammate to have,” said Seca. “When you add up all of his great player qualities and the fact that he’s a local product who always came to Sting games as a kid and dreamed to be a member of the Sarnia Sting, it’s a great full circle story that we are excited to be a part of.”
Campbell and the Sting will hit the ice Friday as they take on the Oshawa Generals at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
You can catch every Sting game on Big Country 103.9.
