Canada defeated Haudosaunee in the women’s semi-final in Oshawa before losing to the USA in the gold medal match
The USA took home all the gold medals at the 2026 Pan-American Sixes Championship in Oshawa on Sunday, though Canada made them fight for it, with both finals ending by just one goal.
The American victory in the men’s final – their first over Canada in the Sixes format since 2021 – came with only a second-and-a-half left on the clock. Patrick Kavanaugh’s goal clinched a 12-11 comeback win after the U. S. team tied it up with just 22 seconds remaining.
Canada had grabbed an 11-10 lead with 1:55 left as Tanner Cook and Ian Mac Kay executed a perfect two-man play, allowing Mac Kay to score what looked like a winning goal. Canada then had a breakaway chance with under a minute remaining, but Liam Entenmann made a huge save, and the U. S. quickly leveled it before winning shortly after during a power play.
The U. S. also won gold in the women’s final, narrowly beating Canada 15-14, with Emma La Pinto netting the decisive goal in the last minute.
The Haudenosaunee Nationals secured bronze in men’s competition by defeating an emerging Puerto Rico team, while Brazil finished fifth and also earned qualification for next year’s World Sixes Championships set for Colorado Springs.
Civic Fields in Oshawa has been hosting this Pan-American tournament and previously hosted four consecutive years of the World Lacrosse Super Sixes tournament from 2022 to 2025.
Puerto Rico stunned Haudenosaunee in the women’s bronze medal match, while Argentina claimed fifth place and secured the last qualifying spot for the 2027 World’s.
The tournament in Colorado will act as a qualifier for the Olympic Games happening in Los Angeles in 2028, fulfilling World Lacrosse’s long-held dream to have lacrosse return to Olympic competition.
LA28 will mark lacrosse’s third appearance at the Olympics, following its inclusion back in 1904 (St. Louis) and again in 1908 (London). It was later featured as a demonstration sport during three different Olympics: Amsterdam 1928, Los Angeles 1932, and London 1948.

What’s the biggest issue in this municipal election?
In 2028, both men’s and women’s lacrosse will be played using Sixes format-a fast-paced version of lacrosse blending elements of field and box styles. This format provides more opportunities for players while making it easier for newcomers to get involved. It is characterized by quick transitions and high-scoring action that keeps fans engaged from start to finish.
Sixes was developed back in 2018; it’s helped expand global interest along with accessibility and competitiveness while lowering costs associated with participation and organizing events. It’s often referred to as ‘the next generation’ of lacrosse.
