FORT FRANCES – NORTHERN ONTARIO NEWS – A 19-year-old from Hamilton has been charged with drug trafficking after an investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police in Fort Frances.
The Rainy River District OPP Community Street Crime Unit started looking into suspected drug activities in the area during the summer of 2026.
Arrest Made After Investigation
One individual was taken into custody around 6:30 p. m. CDT on Wednesday, September 23.
During the operation, police reportedly found suspected cocaine and fentanyl, Canadian cash, and other items they believe are linked to drug trafficking.
The Community Street Crime Unit got help from the OPP North West Region Canine Unit, local officers from Rainy River District OPP, and Treaty Three Police Service.
Two Charges Filed for Drug Trafficking
Collin Burgess, a 19-year-old from Hamilton, is facing charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act for:
Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine; and Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – an opioid other than heroin.
The accused is currently in custody and is set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Fort Frances at a later date.
Authorities did not disclose how much drugs were seized or their estimated street value.
No charges have been proven in court yet. The accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
