The Ontario government has revealed that they will provide financial support for a new investment by the Waterloo manufacturing firm ‘Northern Precision Mfg. Inc’, which will lead to nearly $6 million in improvements and the creation of seven new “good-paying” jobs in the city’s manufacturing sector.
“By backing strategic investments from local businesses, our government is safeguarding Ontario’s workers and fostering a strong, stable, and resilient economy that can endure any challenges,” stated Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Mike Harris during the announcement on Friday.
“Northern Precision’s investment will drive growth and innovation throughout the local manufacturing industry and generate good-paying jobs for workers and families in the Waterloo Region.”
The financial assistance for Northern Precision’s efforts is part of a larger $250 million commitment by the province towards manufacturers within Ontario under the RDP.
As of September 2026, according to provincial reports, Ontario has provided funding through the RDP to over 215 projects which have generated more than $2.8 billion in investments while creating nearly 6000 jobs across Ontario.

Details of the Investment
Northern Precision Mfg. Inc is part of Sphere Manufacturing Group, which includes local manufacturers RJB Machining Ltd., Eldorado Tool & Manufacturing Co. Ltd., and KW Anodizing Ltd. Northern Precision indicates that this new investment will enhance their production capabilities at their local custom production machine shop, primarily focusing on components for firearms like assault rifles. Sphere Manufacturing Group’s facility located at Colby Dr. in Waterloo (Google Maps) Northern Precision specifically mentions in their press release that this new funding will “boost the company’s technological capabilities to ramp up its production volumes of Integrated Upper Receiver (IUR) components.” This investment will enable them to produce multiple lines of IUR and Modular Rail Rifles intended for both Canadian and American markets. “This funding through the AMIC program will support Northern Precision Mfg. Inc., a division of Sphere Manufacturing Group, as we grow our operations in Waterloo, enhance production capacity, and invest in advanced equipment needed to sustain our growth,” said Aly Rahemtulla, CEO of Sphere Manufacturing Group. “We are excited to keep investing in Canadian manufacturing while strengthening our presence in the Waterloo Region, contributing to a resilient local economy and building more manufacturing capacity right here at home.” The new $5,960,910 investment from Northern Precision is expected to create seven new “good-paying” manufacturing jobs while also retaining an additional fifteen existing positions in Waterloo.Provincial Financial Support
Alongside Northern Precision’s investment announcement, the Ontario provincial government has disclosed it will allocate an extra $687,811 as part of the Regional Development Program (RDP)’s Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness (AMIC) Stream. This AMIC stream was launched in 2022 to assist “advanced manufacturers” throughout Canada. Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, notes that this investment into Northern Precision reflects broader support for Ontario’s manufacturing sector: “Employing over 800,000 individuals across the province, Ontario’s manufacturing industry serves as our nation’s economic engine. Our government proudly supports local companies like Northern Precision Mfg. Inc as they expand their operations; we appreciate their contributions to Ontario’s dynamic growing manufacturing ecosystem.”
