The provincial government has announced a plan to invest $49 million over the next three years aimed at assisting small businesses facing challenges due to U. S. tariffs and economic instability.

This funding will be distributed through the Ontario Small Business Advisory Centres (OSBAC), which is consolidating 50 small business and entrepreneurship centers under a single brand.

Nina Tangri, associate Minister of Small Business, revealed the funding on Thursday in Windsor.

“Now more than ever, Ontario small businesses need timely advice, trusted services and practical supports to help them navigate change and succeed,” said Tangri. “As we work to protect Ontario’s economy, our record $49 million investment and the new OSBAC brand will make it easier for business owners to find and access the tools and advice that can help them pivot, grow and create jobs.”

The province hasn’t disclosed how much of this funding will be allocated specifically to businesses in Windsor and Essex County. The initiative aims to assist entrepreneurs in obtaining business advice, training, mentorship, provincial programs, and funding necessary for starting, buying, selling, growing or adapting their businesses.

Ryan Donally, CEO of the Windsor-Essex Chamber of Commerce, mentioned that small businesses, microbusinesses and sole proprietors account for around 85 percent of his organization’s members.

“They create jobs, drive innovation and contribute to the vibrancy of our communities,” he said. “Their success is supported by a strong economic development ecosystem, including the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Centre, Invest Windsor Essex, municipalities, post-secondary institutions and community partners. We thank the Government of Ontario for its continued investment in the programs and partnerships that help local entrepreneurs start, grow and succeed, strengthening both our local businesses and regional economy.”

The government stated that resource centres previously operated under various names and logos which made it difficult for business owners to recognize them as part of an organized province-wide network. While brands are changing now, the services offered will remain unchanged.

“Local entrepreneurs are the driving force behind strong communities and a strong economy, which is why I am proud of our government’s record $49 million investment in Ontario’s network of Small Business Advisory Centres,” said MPP Andrew Dowie (PC – Windsor-Tecumseh). “By connecting business owners with local support, funding opportunities and expert advice, we are helping businesses grow, create jobs and contribute to a more prosperous Ontario.”
