Authorities have paused the large-scale search for an 18-year-old autistic teen who was last seen four days ago in Elgin County, according to police.
The OPP issued a missing-person alert on Sunday for Kameron Leneve, who left his home on Second Line in Southwold Township at about 6:40 p. m. Saturday and didn’t come back, police reported.
Officials from Oneida Nation of the Thames mentioned that investigators think the missing teen is autistic and may have traveled toward the Indigenous community located southwest of London.
“While legally an adult, he is believed to function at an intellectual level comparable to that of a 12-year-old child, making his safe and timely location a priority,” the Oneida administration stated in a social media post.
The search effort included dogs, tactical officers, and a helicopter and concentrated on areas around River Road, Townline Road, and Magdala, as noted in the post.
The search did not yield any results and Leneve was still missing as of Wednesday, said OPP Const. Jeff Hare.
“Officers will continue to follow leads and will lean on the public for assistance,” Hare shared in an email.
Leneve is described as white, six-foot-four inches tall weighing 179 pounds with curly red hair. He is thought to be wearing a light-colored zip-up hoodie, black T-shirt, jeans, yellow hat, and work boots.
