An Oshawa man claims he’s been paying for an air cleaning system linked to his new furnace for years, but as Pat Foran reports, he recently learned it was never installed.
An Oshawa resident was taken aback to discover he’s been shelling out nearly $90 a month for a HEPA air filtration system that was never set up in his home.
“They are taking money out of my account for something I don’t have. I’m paying for something I don’t have,” Joseph Kwiatkowski told .
Kwiatkowski mentioned that four years ago he came across an ad on social media about a furnace and decided to invite the company over to hear their offer.
“I think it was some kind of promotion and I did need a furnace so they came and looked at it (his old furnace), and I said OK we will replace the furnace,” he shared.
He stated that when he bought his new furnace, the company suggested he also get a HEPA filter air cleaning system, leading him to agree to a 10-year contract covering both costs.

The contract he signed in 2022 indicates he was paying $110 a month for the furnace and $70 for the HEPA filter, but prices have risen and the current charge for the HEPA filter is now $87 per month.
Kwiatkowski remarked that he never really noticed any improvement in air quality at home and recently needed to replace his air conditioner.
To his surprise, the installers informed him there wasn’t any HEPA filter unit installed in his house. The HEPA filter he’d been billed for nearly four years had never actually been put in place.
“They told me there is no HEPA filter with your system. There is nothing there at all and I was shocked,” said Kwiatkowski.
Over those four years, the charges accumulated to $3,700 for the non-existent HEPA filter.
“I feel very disappointed and I would like my money back,” expressed Kwiatkowski.

“I’m very glad that this has been dealt with. My wife and I are very pleased to get this money back,” said Kwiatkowski.
