The Town of Saugeen Shores has announced that, starting today, September 18th (2026), the area referred to as the ‘Police Parkette’ in Port Elgin will be closed for a while.
This closure, as stated by Saugeen Shores Town, involves the Parkette located between Emma and Catherine Street on Goderich Street in Port Elgin, right next to the Service Ontario outlet and the Chamber of Commerce offices. The closure is necessary for the Town to carry out essential repairs, maintenance, and upgrades.
Over the summer months, this area was home to a tent encampment where unhoused individuals held a ‘peaceful protest’ addressing the shortage of affordable housing options.
