On Wednesday, bystanders came to the aid of a driver whose car was sinking in Guelph Lake, according to police.
The Ontario Provincial Police reported that around 10:30 a. m., officers from Wellington County OPP and other emergency responders were called to a scene where a vehicle had gone off Wellington Road 124 and ended up in Guelph Lake.
This location is just north of the City of Guelph.
Authorities later learned that the driver was trapped inside the vehicle as it started to sink.
“While arriving on scene, numerous Good Samaritans from nearby stopped vehicles were observed already in the lake assisting the trapped driver from the submerged sedan,” OPP said.
“The driver was safely brought to shore, where they were assessed by EMS and subsequently transported to hospital with minor injuries.”
A guard rail was damaged during this incident. No other vehicles were involved.
Wellington Road 124 and Jones Baseline were closed in that area while officers conducted their investigation.
Police did not provide details on what may have caused the accident.
The investigation is still ongoing.
