Ontario Tech University has announced its major entrance scholarship recipients for the 2026-2027 academic year (clockwise from upper left): Clara Capkun, Emily Rice, Arunraj Gnanaseelan, Kirill Kulaev, Zoha Naqvi and Joshua Kuchmak (Note: photo not available for international student and Global Leadership Award recipient Rittan Preet Kaur Chahal).

Every year, Ontario Tech University honors seven outstanding incoming students with its top entrance scholarships. These awards are given to students who have shown remarkable success in academics, leadership, and community service. They celebrate the enthusiasm, commitment, and potential that students have displayed throughout their high school years.

Ontario Tech’s major entrance scholarships (each renewable for four years)

Chancellor’s Scholarship: One valued at $36,000 ($9,000 per year) President’s Scholarship: Two valued at $30,000 each ($7,500 per year) Founder’s Scholarship: Two valued at $24,000 each ($6,000 per year) FIRST Robotics Canada Scholarship: One valued at $12,000 ($3,000 per year) Global Leadership Award: One valued at $120,000 ($30,000 per year)

Ontario Tech proudly presents these scholarships to recognize students whose dedication and achievements have distinguished them from their peers. These awards help support their ongoing success as they embark on this next phase of their educational path.

The major entrance scholarship recipients for the 2026-2027 academic year are:

Chancellor’s Scholarship

Emily Rice (Kinesiology) from Scotland, Ontario is driven by her curiosity. An accomplished student leader with a love for learning and problem-solving, she has set herself apart through exceptional academic performance and involvement in her community. Recognized with various honors including the Valediction Award and Principal’s Award for Student Leadership along with her designation as an Ontario Scholar; she has also committed her time to peer tutoring and athletics while serving as Prime Minister of Student Council and representing her classmates through the Grand Erie Student Senate.

Emily found her passion for science by exploring how mathematics connects with athletics and human movement. She looks forward to continuing her journey of discovery this fall while pursuing a career focused on health and helping others thrive.

President’s Scholarships

Clara Capkun (Nuclear Engineering and Co-op) from Oshawa is an enthusiastic musician and emerging leader. She has built an impressive record of accomplishments in academics as well as arts involvement within her community. Honored with awards recognizing music leadership alongside academic excellence in both music and arts; she has taken on various leadership roles like Band Manager and Trumpet Section Leader while founding her school’s chamber ensemble to help fellow students grow.<p Through numerous performances in band or orchestra settings; Clara developed a solid appreciation for teamwork which taught her that success often comes from knowing when to lead or when to assist others toward shared goals. This fall she aims to expand upon those experiences preparing herself for a career in nuclear engineering where collaboration blends seamlessly with technical expertise.

Joshua Kuchmak (Electrical Engineering and Co-op), also from Oshawa stands out both academically and outside of it too! He founded his school’s DECA chapter while serving as Prime Minister on Student Council demonstrating initiative by creating opportunities for other students all around him! His many achievements include receiving multiple awards across subjects such as math/science/business/French plus provincial recognition via DECA competitions.

A lover of education & problem-solving Joshua plans pursue teaching education after completing undergraduate studies aiming one day teach math & science overseas especially within French-speaking countries! Whether he’s tutoring classmates/coaching soccer/helping his younger sibling study-he remains dedicated towards encouraging everyone learn more effectively!

Founder’s Scholarships

Arunraj Gnanaseelan (Biological Science & Co-op), hailing from Oshawa embodies determination coupled innovation concerning health care/biotechnology fields. His pursuit excellence shines through showcasing leadership/community engagement throughout high school experiences! Serving roles including Prime Minister Student Council + representational duties within Durham District School Board Senate. Participating actively Model United Nations , HOSA , DECA whilst consistently seeking chances lead initiatives aimed make meaningful impacts.

An incident inspired Arunraj personally sparked strong interest biotechnological developments leading research project regarding artificial respiratory pacemaker done under DECA banner hoping contribute advances biomedical innovations solving complex medical challenges improving lives utilizing scientific methods/technologies.

Zoha Naqvi (Human Health Science), also based outta Oshawa boasts stellar records academically/research/community service efforts alike! Acting notably Co-President Art Annual Youth Innovation Challenge organizing fundraisers benefiting Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre meanwhile working diligently Junior Research Assistant position Ontario Tech itself earning accolades like Youth Policing Winter Initiative Valedictorian title alongside Model Parliament selection & several academic/leadershp achievements awarded over time.

The spirit resilience/courage/determination prevalent here resonated deeply upon deciding Ontarion Tech University became first choice institution post-secondary due commitment equity/inclusion/service makes lasting positive impact creating communities where individuals feel respected/empowered!

FIRST Robotics Canada Scholarship

Kirill Kulaev (Electrical Engineering & Co-op), residing Ajax shows utmost dedication member FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team honing technical/leadership abilities during three-year competition stint taking varied responsibilities e. g driver coach/designer/media executive/senior builder contributing multiple award-winning performances during regional events alongside two appearances at Ontario Provincial Championship earning accolades related innovation/engineering achievements

Additionally , Kirill organized successful fundraisers raising over $600 using 3D printed toys benefitting Grandview Kids Pediatric Rehabilitation Centre demonstrating willingness utilize tech support causes beyond just competitions mentoring juniors regarding design principles /engineering practices/safe tool usage along way too!

Global Leadership Award (international)Rittan Preet Kaur Chahal(Nursing ) originally hailing Tanzania stands out extraordinary student leader marked distinguished scholarly pursuits claiming prestigious awards across subjects ranging mathematics/physics/biology/chemistry receiving Highest GPA distinctions/Awarded Excellence titles alike held pivotal roles e. g School President or Head Girl simultaneously engaging large scale programs fostering global innovation blending sustainability objectives into projects aimed producing biodegradable materials while volunteering extensively aiding children disadvantaged backgrounds showcasing empathy collaborative attitude making tangible changes local communities.
