It is with deep sorrow that the family shares the news of Robert Allan Forbes (Bob) passing away at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Center on September 5th, 2026 at the age of 73.
Bob was born on January 29, 1953 in Pilot Mound, Manitoba to his caring parents Reg and Clara Forbes. He grew up in Brandon Manitoba. From a young age, he showed talent in various sports while also developing a strong passion for hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He attended Lakehead University where he earned a Degree in Forestry in 1977. While studying there, Bob met Sue (nee Fregeau), who would become the love of his life; they got married in 1976.
After graduation, Bob and Sue moved to Longlac, Ontario where they raised their sons Trevor and Curtis. Bob started his career with Kimberly Clark as a production foreman at Camp 55 and worked his way up to become Director of Forest Management. His commitment to forestry reflected his love and respect for nature which he passed down to his sons. Later on, he took a consulting advisor role that allowed him to keep working towards ensuring the long-term sustainability of the boreal forest. Throughout his time in Longlac spanning over 43 years, Bob volunteered for numerous organizations and committees including coaching minor hockey for several years and contributing to Kenogamisis Golf Course, the Longest Day of Golf event, Ducks Unlimited among many others.
In retirement, Bob and Sue moved to Thunder Bay in the summer of 2020 to be closer to their grandchildren. They enjoyed spending winters in Crystal River, Florida where they made time for both old friends and new ones.
Wherever he went, Bob easily made friends and had a special knack for keeping those connections alive. Every year he looked forward to goose hunting trips with buddies from elementary school. His annual golf outings included close friends too; plus his cherished deer hunts with family at Lake of the Woods were always special times together. An avid gardener as well, Bob often shared much of what he grew with friends and neighbors. Despite facing various health issues over time, Bob remained strong throughout.
Bob and Sue were fortunate enough to recently celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary together in their backyard surrounded by their children and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents Reg and Clara but is survived by his wife Sue; sons Trevor and Curtis; five grandchildren: Keely, Brady, Brynlee, Preston, Peyton; along with sister Faye. He will also be fondly remembered by Sue’s siblings: Jim, Neil, Paul, Sheila, Tom, John, Joe as well as Marnie, Charmaine , Kim , Rick D , Moe , Carly , Rick A , Katie along with many nieces and nephews.

As per Bob’s wishes there won’t be a funeral service but rather a celebration of life planned for spring where we can all “raise a glass” together.
The arrangements are handled by Simpler Times Cremation Centre located at 575 Central Avenue in Thunder Bay.
