The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are seeking information from scrap metal dealers after a significant amount of copper wire, valued at around one million dollars, was taken from a site in Lambton County.

Police reports indicate that the wire was kept on large spools at a facility located on Oil Springs Line in St. Clair Township, just south of Sarnia.

This incident likely took place between 2 p. m. on August 15 and the morning of August 17.

A locked gate was cut open to access the property and remove the spools.

The estimated worth of the stolen wire is about $1 million.

Authorities say their investigation is ongoing, but they encourage those involved in salvage operations or recycling centers to be vigilant for any large amounts of copper wire. If such materials are received, OPP would like to be notified.

OPP also urges anyone who noticed any suspicious behavior on Oil Springs Line between St. Clair Parkway and Greenfield Road – especially if they have dash cam or surveillance footage – to get in touch.

This year, Bell Canada informed both the public and federal government that there has been a sharp rise in copper wire thefts, warning that vital telecommunications services could be affected if these crimes continue unchecked.
