William “John” Moffatt, age 91, of Bracebridge, Ontario, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, at Andy’s House, Hospice Muskoka in Port Carling.
He was the devoted husband of Beth, with whom he enjoyed 64 wonderful years of marriage and built a great life together.
John served as a role model and mentor to his three sons: Bill (Arlene) of Calgary, James (Tiffany) of Kelowna, and Dave (Mary) of Bracebridge. He took pride in being Poppa to his seven grandchildren: Robin, Max, Tyler, Jessica, Abbey, Avery, and Adriene.
John spent his early years in Montreal. He attended Mc Gill University where he earned a degree in chemical engineering and went on to have a long successful career in the field. John and Beth raised their family in Oakville where they made many lasting friendships. After spending 30 years cottaging in Muskoka they moved to Bracebridge in 2014. He actively participated in every community he lived in and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
John loved being at the head of Beth’s dinner table surrounded by family and friends sharing lively conversations. People will remember him for his great sense of humor, keen interest in world events, love for science and technology, along with his hobby of building and flying radio-controlled planes. Above all else, John was a true gentleman full of life and love.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ken Hotson and Dr. Jessica Nairn for their caring support.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday August 8th 2026 from 2pm to 5pm at the Canadian Raceboat Hall of Fame in Muskoka Lakes Township. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s memory to the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital Foundation or Andy’s House, Hospice Muskoka.
