On Wednesday, Qalibaf took to his X account to point out recent US attacks on a school in Minab, a sports hall in Lamerd, and a wedding in Kuhestak. He argued that the ongoing civilian casualties highlight the true nature of US actions.
“Minab school: children massacred. Lamerd sports hall: kids slaughtered. Kouhestak wedding: children killed with families,” he said.
“If a power acts like Satan, picks targets like Satan, and kills like Satan, it’s Satan,” Qalibaf said of the US.
“Shields a junior Satan that does the same? It’s THE Great Satan,” he added.
His remarks followed those of Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei, who criticized a US strike on a residential home in Kuhestak, Sirik, where families were celebrating a wedding. Baqaei reported over 50 people were killed or injured and described this attack as part of a wider trend of US aggression against Iranian civilians while warning that ignoring such incidents could lead to their normalization.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian Army later announced they carried out missile and drone strikes on US bases located in Jordan, Iraq’s Erbil, Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates as retaliation for the Sirik strike that impacted nearly 70 civilians and resulted in four fatalities including one child.
