Authorities in Kingston, Ont., reported a shooting incident on the Waaban Crossing that led to the bridge being closed on Wednesday morning.
The police shared limited information regarding the shooting and did not disclose how many officers were present or if there were any injuries or deaths.
Officials stated there is no threat to public safety; however, the bridge over the Great Cataraqui River will remain shut in both directions for an extended time.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9:40 a. m.
Kingston police mentioned they have contacted the Special Investigations Unit, which looks into serious incidents involving Ontario police departments.
The Canadian Press has reached out to the police oversight agency for comments but has yet to receive a response.
