Marigje passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, after a short illness in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario at the age of 80. She was the loving wife of Paul for 56 years and a proud mom to James (Wendy), Ed (Janice), and Anthony (Kimberley). Marigje took great joy in being an Oma to six grandchildren: Levi, Anna, Arie, Finn, Katie, and Reid. She was predeceased by her parents Frans and Marigje Jansen. Her siblings included Annie Aupperlee (late Wim), Albert Jansen (June), and Plonie Jansen. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends will miss Marigje dearly.
Living on St. Joseph Island, Marigje was actively engaged in her community; she enjoyed learning and playing violin with Algoma Trad, volunteering at the food bank, and was a long-time member of Harmony St. Mark’s United Church.
As per Marigje’s wishes, cremation has taken place and the family will have a private service for interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the PSW Outreach Program (make cheque payable to “The Township of St. Joseph” with “PSW Program” noted in the memo line), Algoma Trad (e-transfer [email protected]), or any charity of your choice would be appreciated. A special thank you goes out to the doctors and nurses at Matthew’s Memorial Hospital and 3C at Sault Area Hospital for their care.
