Two men are facing murder charges in connection with the shooting death of Anthony Dixon in Pickering back in 2023.
The two suspects have been charged with second degree murder more than three years after a 17-year-old was fatally shot in Pickering.
A housing complex on Kingston Road was the site of the incident on June 18, 2023, where police found Anthony Dixon suffering from gunshot wounds after responding to reports of a shooting. Officers arrived around 9:40 p. m. and located Dixon, who was pronounced dead at the scene despite paramedics’ attempts to save him.
It’s believed that shots were fired from a vehicle that then sped away. At the time, police were unsure how many suspects were involved.
Authorities urged anyone who might have been in the area during the shooting or who may have information to come forward. They also encouraged any witnesses with cellphone footage to reach out to investigators.
After an extensive investigation, homicide detectives from Durham Regional Police managed to identify two suspects who were taken into custody earlier this week on Tuesday and Wednesday.
One suspect cannot be named due to provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act because he was underage at the time of the crime.
Fawaz Sheikh, aged 22 from Ajax, along with a 19-year-old from Pickering, have both been charged with second degree murder.
Both individuals are currently being held pending a bail hearing.
