Peel Regional Police report that a woman’s body was found in the back seat of a wrecked car at a tow yard, just hours after her family reported her missing.
On Saturday, Nov. 1 at around 4:20 a. m., a collision occurred in Brampton, Ont., near Queen Street and Chinguacousy Road involving two vehicles.
Initially, police stated only one driver – a 31-year-old man working as a rideshare driver – had died, but later confirmed that the passenger in his vehicle, a 20-year-old woman, also lost her life.
The 17-year-old driver of the other vehicle has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death and failing/refusing to comply with testing demands. Due to provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the teen’s identity cannot be released.
According to , the woman’s body was discovered after her family had reported her missing following the crash. She has been identified by family and friends as Kourtney Khan.

In their statement, Peel police indicated that when first responders arrived at the scene, they found the driver deceased inside a Honda Civic. He had to be removed from the vehicle.
“At this time, there was no immediate or clear indication of a passenger,” police mentioned in their statement.

The driver of the Honda was working as a Lyft driver that night, as learned by , and had an active rider inside his car.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss,” said a spokesperson from Lyft. “Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of both drivers and riders involved. We have reached out to offer our support and will assist law enforcement with any investigation.”
spoke with a close friend of the driver – who identified him as Sukhdev Singh – mentioning that Sukhdev had his warehouse shift canceled and sought to drive for Lyft to make up for lost income.

“His company canceled his shift. So he was just making up for that and went for a Lyft,” said Sukhdev’s friend Dilraj Singh. “According to his Lyft details … He picked her up at 4:15 … so all this happened within about 10 minutes.”
Dilraj shared that Sukhdev was married and had just become a father to a baby girl. A Go Fund Me page has been established for his family and raised over $53,000 by Thursday afternoon. Dilraj recounted how Sukhdev’s wife called him upon hearing about the crash; he hurried over to her home where he met police delivering news about Sukhdev’s death.

The authorities mentioned processing is underway at both vehicles taken to an impound lot for further analysis.
“In the hours after the collision, we received reports about a missing 20-year-old woman whose last known location-confirmed through tracking app-was right at the crash site,” police stated.

Cops were dispatched both to check out evidence at both locations-the crash site and impound yard-for any sign of passengers.
Police revealed they found Kourtney embedded within what remained of the wrecked Honda Civic’s back seat during their examination.Kourtney’s remains required extraction using specialized equipment from Brampton Fire and Emergency Services due to being trapped there for more than twelve hours. Her family reported her missing around four o’clock p. m., while she was located sometime after five p. m. on Saturday evening.
