Marcus Ericsson has taken home the win at the first-ever Ontario Honda Dealers Indy in Markham.

Ericsson overtook Romain Grosjean with just four laps remaining, marking his fifth victory in his Indy Car career.

Grosjean finished in second place, while Will Power secured third and season leader Alex Palou came in fourth.

This is the inaugural year for Markham, Ont., to host this race after it relocated from Toronto’s Exhibition Place, where it had been held since 1986.

Palou qualified 12th on the grid, which was a first for him outside of the top 10 in qualifying over the past 30 races.

Heading into Sunday’s race, he held a substantial 110-point lead over Kyle Kirkwood in the driver standings as he aims for his fifth Indy Car title.

Kirkwood’s day ended early on lap 53 when he hit the inside wall at Turn 3 and then collided with the outside wall.

Louis Foster was the fastest car during practice and qualifying, securing his first pole position of the season.

Foster had predicted before the race that there might be “carnage” on the challenging 12-turn, 3.52-kilometre road course that weaves around downtown Markham between Kennedy Road, Enterprise Boulevard, Unionville GO tracks and Highway 407.

Is the Canadian government handling the trade conflict with the U. S. well?

That prediction turned out to be true as Foster faced trouble early on Sunday. He crashed on lap 43 after brushing against the inside wall following an attempt to pass Ericsson and then struck nose-first into the outside wall of Turn 3.

This report by The Canadian Press was first Aug. 16, 2026.
