Ontario is broadening its Protect Ontario Financing Program (POFP) to help industries hit by the latest U. S. tariffs.
“No matter what President Trump sends our way, we’ll have your backs,” said Ontario Premier Doug Ford from a podium in Hamilton on Monday.
This financing program was created during the first wave of American tariffs last year and aims to assist businesses struggling due to the ongoing trade conflict.
The POFP helps cover costs such as lease payments, utility bills, and payroll expenses, enabling affected businesses to keep their employees.
Recently impacted sectors include mechanical and electrical equipment, machinery, plastic and paper products, alcohol, furniture, and others.
Ford also took a moment to support Prime Minister Carney, expressing full backing for “this decision to walk away from a bad deal that would have hurt Canadian workers and undermined Canadian sovereignty. And he has my full support to hit back tariff for tariff, dollar for dollar.”
