Fatal Accident Claims Lives of Two from Cambridge

Two residents of Cambridge have lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries after a collision on Highway 401 in Mississauga early Wednesday morning, according to police reports.

The Ontario Provincial Police shared details on X, noting that one vehicle rear-ended another in the eastbound express lanes near Dixie Road just before 9 a. m., as traffic was slowing down in the area.

A man and a woman were declared dead at the scene. They have been identified as an 80-year-old male passenger and a 53-year-old female passenger, both hailing from Cambridge, who were in the car that was hit from behind.

Three additional individuals were transported to the hospital with injuries, with at least one being airlifted to a trauma center in critical condition.

The eastbound express lanes of Highway 401 remained closed from east of Mississauga Road to east of Dixie Road for several hours but reopened around 4 p. m.
