A big tree has collapsed across Dundas Street E. close to Sherbourne Street, causing traffic issues in downtown Toronto this Monday morning.
Toronto police mentioned they were alerted about the fallen tree early on Monday through a post on social media platform X. Power lines have also been affected, and fire services are present at the scene, according to the update.
TTC service routes 505 and 506 have had to be rerouted, and there’s no service along Dundas Street between Spadina and Broadview avenues.
Police report that Dundas Street is blocked off between Seaton and Sherbourne streets.
There’s currently no estimate for when the roads will reopen.
“City staff have responded and are working with the TTC to remove the tree and ensure public safety,” said James Nowlan, executive director of environment, climate and forestry at the City of Toronto.
“We take this evolving situation very seriously and ask members of the public to report hazardous trees and branches to 311 to help ensure staff can investigate and remove hazards for the safety of all.”
