The search is currently underway near Kawartha Lakes for a missing 73-year-old pilot after his damaged plane was found late last night. John Musselman reports.
The search for the missing aircraft has come to a close after crews discovered debris near Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park in Ontario.
While some parts of the plane have been located, the fate of the missing 73-year-old pilot, identified by his family as David Douglas, is still unknown.
According to Durham Regional police, he took off from Oshawa Airport around 8:30 a. m. on Friday and was thought to be flying north toward Kawartha Lakes.
Douglas was piloting a small blue and yellow, single-seat, home-built aircraft with “FOFZ” marked on its tail.

He was expected back by 9:30 a. m. that same day but never returned. Investigators reported he was last seen near Balsam Lake.
A coordinated search began over the weekend for Douglas.
On Monday, Durham Regional police confirmed that debris had been found in the Kawartha Lakes area. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) based in Trenton stated that wreckage was spotted at Wolf Lake.

Authorities confirmed to that Douglas hasn’t been located yet but mentioned that the investigation now falls under the Ontario Provincial Police’s jurisdiction.
Kawartha Lakes OPP will assist JRCC with the search efforts which include dive teams searching lake areas.
“We hope that Search and Rescue efforts will contribute to continuing the search,” said Trenton JRCC in its latest update.
