Hamilton residents will have the chance to vote for the next mayor on Oct. 26. Candidates must register for the municipal election by Aug. 21.

Andrea Horwath, who was first elected as mayor in 2022 after leading the Ontario NDP, has officially signed up for re-election this year. Just like in 2022, she will be facing Keanin Loomis, whom she defeated by a margin of 1,663 votes last time.
Nominations can be submitted or withdrawn until Aug. 21 at 2 p. m.
Candidates will be displayed alphabetically by their last names along with a short bio. This page will receive regular updates as the election progresses, and individual lists for ward candidates will follow a similar format.
The Mayoral Contest in Hamilton
Sasha Austin announced her candidacy via Instagram on April 5. She mentions that she’s from North End and aims to address issues such as open drug use, homelessness, property taxes, and others. Ejaz Butt has been a cab driver in Hamilton for many years and has participated in past municipal elections. Rob Cooper is currently serving as Ward 8 councillor since September 2025. He comes from a background of being a chartered professional accountant for over a decade and states his goal this election is to make Hamilton the “economic engine of Canada.” Paul Fromm is known for his history as a white supremacist and former high school teacher. He’s been associated with various far-right groups since the ’70s and lost his teaching job at Peel District School Board in 1993. Fromm has run multiple times in previous Hamilton elections. Scarlett Gillespie, also recognized as Jelena Vermilion, advocates for sex workers’ rights and is an artist. As executive director of Sex Workers’ Action Program (SWAP) Hamilton, she plans to focus her campaign on housing issues, tenant protections, climate justice, community-led safety efforts, enhancing local arts initiatives, City Hall accountability, accessibility, and transparency. Andrea Horwath (incumbent) was initially elected mayor in 2022 after leading Ontario’s NDP from 2009 to 2022. Before that role, she served as leader of the official opposition from 2018 to 2022. Horwath entered politics back in 1997 when she became a city councillor in Hamilton. Keanin Loomis finished second in the last election against Andrea Horwath with fewer than 2,000 votes separating them. This year he hopes things will turn out differently. As a father of three and business leader, he emphasizes fixing roads, ensuring value for taxes spent while growing the economy and addressing housing concerns among other issues. Pamela Mitchell is a writer originally from Ancaster who ran previously for council positions both in Dundas and Ancaster. Kevin Walker has lived all his life in Hamilton and highlights his First Nations heritage while campaigning on topics like homelessness reduction efforts amid rising living costs and job losses. Nathalie Xian Yi Yan claims to have founded the Hamilton Traditional Chinese Medical Health Science Centre and has also previously run for office.
