The name of a woman who fell into Lake Ontario at a park in Mississauga and later passed away in the hospital hasn’t been disclosed yet, as authorities are working to find her family.

Peel Regional Police informed INsauga. com that the woman was “reportedly … swept into the water” at Jack Darling Memorial Park around 10:30 p. m. on Saturday night.

“Following search-and-rescue efforts,” firefighters from Mississauga found the woman about 45 minutes later, at approximately 11:15 p. m., according to police.

She was quickly taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after.

“At this time, we have not been able to locate and notify her next of kin,” police stated on Monday morning, adding that no further details will be shared until they can make that notification.

The police didn’t provide any information about the woman’s age or any specifics regarding how she ended up in the water. It’s also unclear if she was alone or with others before the incident occurred.

Jack Darling Memorial Park spans over 20 acres and is one of the largest and most frequented waterfront green spaces in Mississauga. Located on Lake Ontario just a few kilometers west of Port Credit Harbour, where the Credit River flows into the lake, it boasts many amenities including picnic spots, tennis courts, beach areas, a leash-free zone, a spray pad, and two playgrounds.

A segment of the popular Waterfront Trail also passes through this park.
