A 35‑year‑old man from Pickering has been charged after police took him into custody for a string of metal thefts amounting to over $45,000 from a business in Ajax.

On June 25 at around 9:15 p. m., officers responded to an alarm triggered at AIM Recycling, located at 140 Dowty Road. Authorities report that a male suspect was seen breaking into the company’s scrap metal yard.

Officers conducted a search of the nearby area and found the suspect, who was arrested without any trouble.

Investigators later confirmed that this individual was involved in several thefts from the business, allegedly taking more than $45,000 worth of metal across multiple incidents.

Haron Mohammad, 35, from Pickering, is facing charges for break‑and‑enter as well as theft exceeding $5,000. He has since been released on an undertaking.

If anyone has information regarding this case, they are encouraged to contact Durham police.
