A 31-year-old man from Mississauga has tragically lost his life after a canoe capsized on Stewart Lake in Mactier, situated in Georgian Bay Township.
The Bracebridge OPP received a call about the incident shortly after 8 p. m. Saturday when reports came in regarding a canoe that had overturned.
According to police, two individuals were paddling approximately 40 feet from the shore when their canoe flipped. One person was saved by a nearby boater, while the other went under and did not come back up.

Emergency responders from Bracebridge OPP, Muskoka Lakes Fire Department, and others searched the area, with assistance from the OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit.
Sadly, the missing man was found deceased on Sunday.
The investigation is ongoing in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
