An 83-year-old woman has passed away after driving the wrong way on the highway and crashing in Oakville Friday night, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Officers responded around 10:10 p. m. to reports of a vehicle going the wrong direction on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) near Erin Mills Parkway. Shortly after, provincial police received notifications that this same vehicle had collided with a sedan, OPP said in a news release Saturday.
Both drivers were initially found to have minor injuries and were taken to hospital. Unfortunately, the condition of the 83-year-old worsened and she died at the hospital, as stated in the release.
The QEW and Trafalgar Road have since reopened following earlier closures.
The OPP is asking anyone with information or video footage to reach out to investigators.
