A woman has lost her life in a wrong-way accident on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Ontario on Friday night.
The OPP reports that they were alerted around 10:10 p. m. about a sedan driving against traffic in the Fort Erie-bound lanes of the QEW near Trafalgar Road before crashing into another sedan.
Both drivers were taken to the hospital with injuries that initially seemed minor. However, police later announced that the driver of the wrong-way vehicle, an 83-year-old woman from Hanover, succumbed to her injuries.
The QEW was shut down for several hours as investigators looked into the incident but has since been reopened.
Anyone with information or video footage is encouraged to reach out to the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
In a different tragic incident on Saturday morning, OPP reported that a pedestrian was hit and killed by a transport truck on Highway 404 near Finch Avenue in North York.
Investigators suspect that the man may have also been struck by other vehicles that did not stay at the scene and are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage.
