Environment Canada has canceled a red tornado warning that was issued on Sunday for parts of the Greater Golden Horseshoe area.
The national weather service reported that its meteorologists were monitoring a severe thunderstorm that might have produced a tornado.
“Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible,” the warning read.
The impacted areas included St. Catharines, Grimsby, Welland and Niagara Region.
The region remains under a separate yellow rainfall warning with up to 50 mm expected on Sunday.
Several thunderstorms are set to move through the area before conditions clear up for the Civic holiday.
