Toronto police have taken a suspect into custody following the deadly shooting of a woman in Etobicoke on Friday morning.
Officers arrived at the scene after receiving reports of gunfire around 7:23 a. m. near Humberwood Boulevard and Rexdale Boulevard, Duty Insp. Scott Bradbury informed reporters.
He stated that they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound, but unfortunately, she was declared dead at the scene despite efforts to save her life.
According to him, the shooting occurred “outside in the public” rather than inside any residence.
Bradbury mentioned that no further information about the victim would be disclosed until her next of kin had been notified.
The police shared on social media platform X that there were no other suspects still at large.
Earlier, Bradbury noted that a male suspect was seen fleeing from the location and that authorities were attempting to locate him. Various resources were deployed for this search, including drones and the K9 unit.
Investigators believe this incident was targeted, as Const. Shannon Eames indicated in an email statement. She added that Toronto police’s emergency task force also responded to the site on Friday morning.

Bradbury stated he could not provide specific details regarding how investigators determined that it was a targeted incident. He confirmed that homicide detectives are now handling the case.
Residents should anticipate an increased police presence in the area as investigators look for witnesses, evidence, and any video footage available.
Bradbury encouraged anyone with information to contact law enforcement or reach out to Crime Stoppers.

A Witness Describes What Happened
A witness nearby told they were enjoying their morning coffee outside when they noticed a woman who seemed to be in her early-to-mid 20s walking east along Humberwood. is not naming this witness for their safety. The witness saw a man who looked like he was in his 30s following her and saying something which made her turn around. After a brief exchange, he shot at her once before running away with a gun, according to what they reported. The witness remarked that there didn’t seem to be any argument between them and called 911 right after seeing her fall down.. They said they attempted to chase after him.
