A fresh agreement that allows alcohol sales directly to consumers across much of Canada is being embraced by a local brewery, even though it’s not likely to significantly boost business.
Dan Mac Kinnon, the brewmaster at Mac Kinnon Brothers Brewing Company near Bath, expressed that this deal is a step in the right direction as it eliminates trade barriers that have hindered alcohol sales between provinces for a long time.
On Tuesday, Ontario became part of an agreement with eight other provinces, which enables consumers to order beer, wine, and spirits directly from producers in participating provinces for personal use.
Mac Kinnon mentioned that the brewery sells about 90 percent of its beer within 50 kilometers of its location, so this change probably won’t make a big difference in overall sales.
However, he noted that this agreement will enable the brewery to send beer to former residents from Kingston and those with the Mac Kinnon name living elsewhere in Canada who often reach out.
Mac Kinnon added that shipping costs will probably limit how frequently customers make long-distance orders since transporting beer can be quite expensive.
