Nottinghamshire Police is taking charge of the situation following a serious accident that involved a motorcycle and a heavy goods vehicle on the A1.

Latest update: 8:05 pm

Nottinghamshire Police | 5 pm

The A1 has been shut down in both directions between Carlton-on-Trent and Tuxford due to a severe traffic collision.
The closure is expected to last for quite some time.
Drivers are urged to steer clear of the area and find alternative routes.

National Highways has sent traffic officers and contractors to assist the police response, manage traffic flow, and help with the clean-up efforts.

Detour Routes

Southbound Traffic

Motorists heading south are advised to follow the solid Triangle diversion symbol.

Exit the A1 southbound at Apleyhead Interchange. Follow the A614 south for about 11 km until reaching the A614/A616 roundabout. Take a left onto the A616 and proceed through Ompton and Kneesall towards South Muskham (approximately 12 km). At the mini-roundabout in South Muskham, take a left onto B6325. Continue on to North Muskham Interchange. At the roundabout, take the third exit to rejoin the A1 southbound.

Please note: Drivers who want to enter the A1 southbound at Markham Moor Interchange should continue north on the A1 until reaching Apleyhead Interchange before following this detour route.

Northbound Traffic

Motorists traveling north should follow the solid Square diversion symbol.

Exit the A1 northbound at North Muskham Junction (B6325). Follow B6325 towards South Muskham. At the mini-roundabout, turn right onto A616 and carry on through Kneesall, Ompton, and Ollerton. At the roundabout for A616/A6075, turn left onto Ollerton Road (A616). Continue until you reach the roundabout for A616/A614, then turn right onto A614. Follow it for about 11 km until you arrive at Apleyhead Interchange (A1/A614/A57) where you can rejoin the A1 northbound.
