Fatal Accident, (Central Nebraska Today)
LOUP CITY – On July 5, 2026 at around 9:56 a. m., 911 Dispatch & Region 26 Emergency Management received a report of an injury accident involving a pickup and a bicycle on Highway 58/92 near the southern junction.
This area is just outside of Loup City. The Loup City-Ashton-Rockville Cooperative Ambulance Squad, Loup City Fire Department, and Sherman County Nebraska Sheriff were quickly sent to the scene.
Upon arrival, responders found a bicyclist in the south ditch of the highway who had been hit by a pickup.
The injured cyclist was taken by Loup City Rescue and Lifenet to Good Samaritan hospital in Kearney. The victim has been identified as Jan Markham, 71, from Loup City. Tragically, Mr. Markham passed away on July 5, 2026. His family has been notified.
The driver of the pickup is Jacob Kuszak, 21, also from Loup City.
This incident is under investigation with support from the Nebraska State Patrol.
