Authorities were alerted to the situation close to Gibb Street and Centre Street S. just before 4:30 p. m. regarding a suspicious package that had wiring and warning labels on it along the walking path.
The police’s explosive disposal unit discovered what seemed to be “military ordinance,” leading to the evacuation of all pedestrians from the nearby area.
An explosive disposal expert from the Department of National Defence arrived at the location and confirmed it was indeed a small bomb dating back to World War II.
The bomb was subsequently removed by defense officials along with police personnel and taken to a military base for safe disposal.
No injuries have been reported, and authorities continue their investigation.
