January 11, 1938 – June 19, 2026
With great sadness, we share the news of Marilyn Kalyta’s peaceful passing at Hogarth Riverview Manor, surrounded by her loving family.
Marilyn was born on January 11, 1938, in Calgary, Alberta to Nick and Evelyn Fratpietro. After moving to Thunder Bay, she thrived in a big family setting. She met her soulmate Edward Kalyta while attending Vocational High and they tied the knot on September 27, 1958. Together they raised four wonderful children.
She was an incredibly generous person who always supported school events, concerts, sports activities & special moments for her kids and grandkids. One of her greatest joys was hosting Sunday dinners, summer BBQs & New Year’s Day celebrations. She would invite extended family & friends over without a second thought to enjoy good food and drinks together. Through hobbies like ceramics, curling, cross-country skiing, aquafit & bowling she made many lifelong friends. Mom also loved volunteering for Christmas Cheer and the Canadian Snowbirds Association as well as canvassing for various charities. A highlight of her life was singing with the St. Agnes Church Choir and being part of the CWL where she proudly received her 50-year pin.
Mom started her career with Gulf Oil & RBC which helped her develop strong customer skills that led to a successful Avon business lasting 25 years. She took pride in achieving President’s Club status along with several accolades during that time. Many of her clients turned into friends.
Mom embraced every chance to travel throughout her life. Over the years she explored many places visiting family & friends across Canada, the US & Bahamas. Some favorite destinations included Hawaii, California & Graceland. Each year she looked forward not only to seeing friends in St. Pete’s Beach but also welcoming family to share those experiences.
Marilyn is survived by her children James, Kevin (Viktoria), Charlene and Janice (Kevin). Her grandchildren Viktoria (fiancé Ryan), Lukas and Kendra also carry on her memory along with her sister Carmen, brothers Nick and Will plus sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins & close friends.
She was predeceased by Edward (her husband), parents, son-in-law and other loved ones.
Funeral services will take place at St. Agnes Church located at 1019 Brown Street with Father James officiating on Monday June 29 at 11am followed by a private interment. Visitation will be held one hour before the service begins. For those unable to attend in person it will be streamed live on Facebook (stagnesrc. ca – click on LIVE).
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay as an expression of sympathy.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Drs Cole and Long along with the amazing team from Orchid on the fifth floor at Hogarth for their exceptional care of Mom.
