Canada Day in the Waterloo Region is set to be hot and lively, but there’s so much happening that you won’t even notice the heat.

The City of Kitchener is gearing up for what might be the biggest celebration at Carl Zehr Square. Three stages are ready around downtown, showcasing local talent throughout the day.

The performances kick off with Sydney Jones at 2 p. m., followed by Christian Miles at 3 p. m. and Cheap Shirt at 4 p. m.

On the main stage, you’ll catch These Eyes: Music of the Guess Who, with Kitchener bluesman Steve Strongman taking his turn afterward.

Steve Roth, Manager of Special Events for the City of Kitchener, told 570 News Radio that you definitely won’t want to miss what’s coming up.

“Don’t forget me when I’m gone, Glass Tiger, who is celebrating 40 years of their number one hit album, The Thin Red Line,” boasted Roth. “So, we’re happy to help celebrate Canada Day, happy to help celebrate their album and happy to welcome Glass Tiger to the stage.”

Besides music, food trucks will be serving up delicious options alongside local restaurants in downtown.

If you’re bringing kids along and a late-night concert isn’t an option for them; don’t worry! The highly popular kids’ zone is back this year, according to Roth.

“Canada Play takes place right across from Carl Zehr Square at St. Louis school, formerly St. Jerome’s. From noon to 7 p. m., it’s an absolutely free activity area for families and kids. Free rides, free games, free activities, free entertainment. Last year was just amazing.”

Canada Plays opens its doors at noon.

If you’re planning on enjoying the concerts, make sure you stick around afterward.

“The moment that everyone waits for is our pyrotechnics fireworks shows which closes out the night around 10:30 p. m. Likely one of the biggest fireworks shows in the Region and it’s a perfect way to wrap up a fantastic festival.”

Waterloo

The City of Waterloo has its own plans lined up. A Community Picnic will take place in Waterloo Park.

This event starts at 4 p. m., featuring live music and performances by local artists throughout the afternoon along with food trucks present. There will also be giant games and fun activities for everyone including kids.

You can explore artist pop-ups as well as an art market.

This year again, Waterloo will skip traditional fireworks in favor of an LED drone show instead.

The show is scheduled to begin at 10 p. m.

A quick note: there won’t be any parking available on-site at Waterloo Park; visitors are encouraged to use public transport or bike over instead.

Cambridge

The City of Cambridge continues its tradition with Canada Day celebrations happening in Riverside Park.

The annual kids’ fishing derby kicks things off bright and early at 7:45 a. m., followed by a parade that sets off from King and Bishop at 11 a. m., concluding at King and Eagle.

The festivities commence in Riverside Park starting noon with live music alongside food trucks offering various tasty bites plus games and activities galore!

The day wraps up with fireworks planned for around 9:45 p. m., or as dusk falls.

Wilmot

Wilmot Township invites everyone out to Norm Hill Park behind New Hamburg Arena for Canada Day celebrations this year!

An Indigenous sunrise ceremony begins bright and early at 7 a. m., followed by opening ceremonies kicking off officially beginning from 1 p. m.

You’ll find kid-friendly zones set up along with vendors markets featuring goods all day long-plus live music offerings too!

Fireworks are set to light up the sky after dark once again this evening!

Woolwich

The Township of Woolwich celebrates Canada Day over at Woolwich Memorial Centre located within Elmira itself!

Kicking things off nicely? A free community swim starting bright & early from ten-thirty am awaits!

A party atmosphere kicks into gear promptly starting from noon complete with antique car displays alongside live musical acts & kid’s corners among other attractions too!

North Dumfries

Nobody wants FOMO here! North Dumfries Township hosts its own version situated within Cowan Park located inside Ayr town limits-this evening gathering commences six pm onward boasting family-friendly musical acts plus enjoyable gaming opportunities all while feeding hungry patrons through food truck vendors scattered about nearby areas too!!!

Capping off what promises great vibes? Fireworks display caps this night beautifully under dusky skies ahead!!

Wellesley

No official Canada Day festivities have been organized by Wellesley Township this time round unfortunately!!!
