Durham police are investigating online threats made against the Muslim Welfare Residences in Whitby.

This shelter provides assistance to women from diverse backgrounds.

Last month, a post spread online suggesting that the government is prioritizing funding for Muslim housing over Canadian welfare residences.

The police reported that they received the threat complaints last week and began their investigation shortly after.

Whitby Mayor Elizabeth Roy has recently expressed her support for the shelter.
