Jacqulyn Kay Reither passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 1st, 2026 with her children at her side.

She was born on April 22nd, 1937 in Aitkin Minnesota to Alec and Mildred (Tibbetts) Johnson.  She graduated from Aitkin High School in 1955.  Jackie eloped with the love of her life, James A. Reither, and they were married in Mason City Iowa on August 10th, 1957.  She supported her husband as he studied in Minnesota, Louisiana, and Oregon while earning his Ph. D. in English.  In 1967 they moved with their young family to Fredericton , New Brunswick, Canada where Jim taught at St. Thomas University for nearly three decades.

They enjoyed their work and life in Canada and made many lasting friendships along the way.  Jackie was actively involved in university life, attended art school, worked at the Crisis Center for Women, and pursued a career in real estate.

Throughout their lives Jim and Jackie traveled a lot, taking several breaks to explore different parts of America and beyond. One of their most memorable experiences was the year spent as a family traveling around Europe in a VW bus.  This trip brought them closer together and had a significant impact on each of them.

Jim passed away in 2019 and Jackie returned to her hometown of Aitkin Mn., where she reconnected with family and friends.

Jackie loved life deeply and had great respect for our planet and all people.  She was strong, kind, and caring; she truly valued her family and friends.

She is preceded by her husband James A. Reither; her parents Alec and Mildred Johnson; her brothers Alec Jr. and Gary; as well as her sisters Patricia and Carol.

Jackie is survived by her three children: Throm and Kirk from Aitkin, along with daughter Heather (Peter) Kaniuk from Canada; plus eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and aides at Riverwood Healthcare Center and Moments Hospice who cared for her during this time. Your compassion meant so much to both her and the family.

Internment will be held at Bennettville cemetery during a quiet ceremony later on. To leave a message of condolence please visit: www. srtfuneral. com. Arrangements are handled by Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Service located in Aitkin.
