(photo by Jason Steele) Firefighters from Saugeen Shores responded to a fire at the Maplewood Motel in Port Elgin yesterday afternoon. According to town officials, the fire was reported around 1 p. m. on Sunday. Fire crews from both Port Elgin and Southampton stations arrived at the location on 319 Goderich Street. Firefighters from Kincardine and Tiverton also lent a hand at the scene. When they got there, they found flames coming from one of the motel units as well as the attic area. The firefighters were able to get the fire under control. One firefighter suffered an injury during the incident. He was taken to a hospital but has since been treated and released. The cause of the fire is still being investigated. No damage estimate has been provided yet.
