A 49-year-old man has died following a workplace accident in Brampton on Friday evening, according to police reports.
Officers were called around 6:40 p. m. to Advance Boulevard, close to Dixie Road and Highway 407, as stated by Peel Regional Police.
The individual was working as a tow truck driver and was unloading a vehicle at an autobody shop when the incident took place, said Peel police Sgt. Taylor Halfyard during a news conference at the scene.
He mentioned that at one point, the man found himself underneath the vehicle he was disconnecting, which then rolled over him.
Emergency responders tried to perform life-saving measures but unfortunately pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Police cordoned off an area that included a CAA flatbed tow truck and a white cube van following the tragic incident.
The Ministry of Labour is taking charge of the investigation into this workplace occurrence, according to Halfyard.
In an email sent to CBC Toronto, Ministry of Labour spokesperson Manuel Alas-Sevillano confirmed they had been informed about the worker’s death in Brampton on Friday.
“A ministry inspector has been assigned to investigate. As the investigation is ongoing, no further details are available at this time,” Alas-Sevillano said.
Meanwhile, Peel police are conducting another investigation alongside it to determine if any criminal activity occurred; however, there’s no indication of that as of now, he added.
