A local pet groomer showcased her talent with a first-place win at a competition in Ottawa this past weekend.
Katie Laprade, a certified master groomer and the owner of DOGS by Kate Professional Pet Grooming, participated in the Ottawa Ontario Grooming Show at the Cohere Centre from June 19th to 21st, where she took home first in her class, first in her division, and best in show.
Laprade, who relocated to Petawawa about ten years ago for her husband’s military job, has been competing as a groomer for roughly that long.

She opted to enter the Ottawa show because it was nearby and earned herself and her standard poodle Winnie some prize money along with an award to display in the “hall of bragging” at her store’s entrance.

While she is proud of her win, Laprade views competitive grooming as vast and sees herself more as a hobbyist enjoying the experience rather than an elite-level competitor.

As much as she values this achievement, she believes that her biggest success lies in the team she has built over the years for her business.
