York Regional Police report that two individuals were declared dead at the scene after being found with multiple gunshot wounds.

Two men lost their lives following a “targeted” shooting outside a home in Vaughan on Wednesday afternoon.

Constable Kevin Nebrija, a media relations officer for York Regional Police, stated that officers received a call shortly after 5:30 p. m. regarding shots fired outside a residence on Kaiser Drive, close to Martin Grove and Langstaff Roads.

“When officers arrived, they found two adult males in front of the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and pronounced them dead shortly thereafter,” Nebrija told reporters at the scene.

The victims have not been named yet; however, Nebrija confirmed that one man resided at the house where the shooting took place while the other lived nearby.

“They knew each other in terms of living in the same area,” said the constable.

Nebrija mentioned that investigators later discovered three males fleeing the scene in a blue SUV right after the shooting.

Possible Link to Vehicle Fire

He noted that officers soon received another call about a vehicle fire approximately 12 kilometers away near Huntington and Kirby roads.

Police are investigating whether this vehicle is connected to their investigation.

When asked if it’s possible that the SUV was stolen, Nebrija replied that this would be something for investigators to find out.

“Again, that’s an entire scene our forensic investigators need to process to determine what vehicle it is and whether it was stolen,” Nebrija said.

Investigators currently don’t have descriptions of any suspects and are actively working to identify them.

Details surrounding what led to this shooting remain unclear.

“This homicide is believed to be targeted, and there’s no ongoing threat to public safety,” Nebrija stated.

Regarding previous police visits to the residence, Nebrija indicated he didn’t have information suggesting it had been targeted before.

He confirmed there were others inside the home during the incident but no one else was harmed.

“It’s absolutely shocking for this community and anyone who might’ve heard or seen anything. Double homicides don’t often happen here especially during daylight hours,” said Nebrija.

“And while it’s concerning for us as well we do have our homicide team looking closely into it to figure out who’s responsible and exactly why this happened today.”

Nebrija described it as “chaotic and horrific” urging local residents affected by this event to reach out for help if needed.

“For those who reported it we can only imagine what they’re feeling right now,” he added. “We do offer victim services if they want support.”

One nearby resident recounted hearing several rapid gunshots.

“At first you hear one shot then there’s silence,” recalled someone who was preparing inside his home when shots rang out.”

“Then like two or three seconds later you hear four or five shots all together just suddenly.”

He noted seeing numerous police cars and ambulances arriving when he stepped outside to see what was happening.

“I’ve never seen anything like that before,” he commented.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about this incident to get in touch with them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
