TORONTO – People will come together today to pay tribute to a Toronto constable who lost his life during a police raid earlier this month.
A procession for Const. Marc Pinizzotto is set to start at 10 a. m., followed by a funeral service at the Toronto Congress Centre at 1 p. m.
Family members, fellow officers, and officials are expected to be present at the service, which will be closed to the public but streamed live online.
Pinizzotto was shot on June 11 while executing a search warrant at an apartment building in the city’s northwest as part of an investigation into several shootings.
The 43-year-old officer later died in hospital.
The individual charged with shooting him, 19-year-old Nicholas Bennett, was shot and injured by police and remains hospitalized.
Bennett has been charged with first-degree murder along with charges related to two other shootings and is scheduled to appear in court via video next month.
