Ontario’s provincial police watchdog reports that it is looking into a serious vehicle crash in Windsor.
The incident took place shortly after 8 a. m. on Friday when an officer attempted to make a traffic stop on Walker Road near Seymour Boulevard, according to a social media update from the Windsor Police Service Facebook page.
The driver did not stop and fled the scene, crashing into another vehicle shortly afterward, police stated.
Windsor Fire and Rescue Services Chief Fire Prevention Officer John Smith mentioned that when crews arrived, they discovered one vehicle ablaze and found a person trapped in another vehicle.
According to police, two individuals were taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
Windsor police announced that they have closed Walker Road between Sydney Avenue and Foster Avenue and are advising drivers to avoid the area and find alternate routes as the investigation is ongoing.
The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now examining the details surrounding the crash, while Windsor police have indicated they cannot provide any further information at this time.
The SIU investigates incidents where death, injury, sexual assault or gunfire directed at an individual may have resulted from criminal actions by officials.
