People living in Saugeen Shores can check out the plans for a significant 400-megawatt battery energy storage project happening in Bruce County.
Neoen Ontario has officially kicked off its Class Environmental Assessment for the Neoen Battery, which was previously known as the Tara Battery.
According to a notice on the company’s website, the planned project, referred to as C1, would be situated 6.5 kilometres south of Port Elgin on Concession Road 2.
The facility has a 20-year agreement with Ontario’s grid operator to store extra electricity and provide power during high demand times.
The project is expected “to help meet growing electricity demand by storing and supplying up to 400 MW of power for a 4-hour duration. Neoen will charge and discharge power directly to and from the high-voltage grid, optimizing the use of existing resources,” stated the notice.
Residents who are interested can join a community open house Thursday at Powerlink in Port Elgin. Doors will open at 5:30 p. m.
