The 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase kicked off this past weekend in Windsor, Ontario. While there aren’t any medals to be won at the Summer Showcase, players who shine during this prep series greatly improve their chances of landing a spot on the roster for the upcoming World Junior Championship.
<p. As usual, the 2025 Showcase features teams from the USA (USA Blue and USA White), Canada, Sweden, and Finland. In the later stages of the tournament, USA Blue and White squads come together to form one Team USA lineup.
This year, the Flyers have five prospects competing in this evaluation tournament: two for Team USA, two for Team Canada, and one for Team Finland.
Team Canada includes 2025 first-round pick Jack Nesbitt and 2026 second-round selection Brek Liske. On Team USA White are 2025 second-round picks Carter Amico and Jack Murtagh. Meanwhile, Max Laatikainen, a seventh-round pick in 2026, is playing for Team Finland. Looking at positions, there are three defensemen (Amico, Liske, Laatikainen), one center (Nesbitt), and one forward who can play different roles (Murtagh primarily plays wing).
<p. During the split squad matches, USA White fell short against Finland but managed to beat Sweden. In contrast, USA Blue triumphed over both Finland and Sweden. On Wednesday, the combined Team USA will face off against Finland while Canada plays its first game against Sweden.
<p. On Thursday, games flip: it’s USA against Sweden and Canada facing Finland. Saturday marks the final day of competition with traditional rivalries: Sweden takes on Finland while the USA battles Canada.
<p. For Flyers fans, one exciting moment so far was during USA White's victory over Sweden with a score of 6-4 on Monday. Murtagh had an impressive three-point outing with one goal and two assists. Although he's usually known as a defensive player, Amico got things started by scoring with a deflected shot in the first period.
