A man from Windsor didn’t change lanes when he drove past a tow truck and an OPP cruiser parked on the roadside.

The OPP was helping the tow truck driver following a collision on Hwy. 401 in Lakeshore on Thursday afternoon, at which point the vehicle went speeding by.

The police pulled over the driver and observed that he was also allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

The 42-year-old is now facing charges for operating a motor vehicle while impaired, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and failing to move into another lane for an emergency vehicle or tow truck.

“The OPP urges all drivers to respect Ontario’s Move Over Law. When approaching an emergency vehicle stopped with its lights flashing, motorists must slow down and, if safe, move into another lane,” said an OPP release. “This law is designed to protect police, paramedics, tow truck operators, and other roadside workers.”

Not complying with this law could lead to fines, demerit points, and potentially serious injury or death.

The Windsor man’s license has been suspended for 90 days, his vehicle will be impounded for a week, and he’ll be appearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on February 27.
