A new round of funding is about to ignite creativity and enhance the cultural scene in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, thanks to the province’s dedicated support for local artists.

The Ontario government is allocating $134,143 to this area to maintain jobs, assist local artists, and encourage the development of regional cultural institutions.

Kegedonce Press, the Durham Art Gallery, and The Tom Thomson Art Gallery will all receive a portion of these funds.

This financial support comes from the Ontario Arts Council, part of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Gaming.

Provincial officials described this assistance as a crucial part of their plan to protect the region’s economy by supporting local workers, businesses, and municipalities during challenging times.

“Our government understands the important role the arts play in fostering dynamic and thriving communities across Ontario,” said Paul Vickers. “This support will help our artists and arts organizations continue to make a positive impact on our economy, create good jobs and draw more visitors to our community.”

Distributed through the Ontario Arts Operating Fund, this program provides long-term support for creative initiatives by funding non-profit cultural groups as well as commercial publishers that collaborate with or aid professional creators across various artistic disciplines. For residents of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, this funding allows these three organizations to display works in welcoming spaces while expanding public workshops and gallery exhibitions aimed at nurturing local talent and inspiring community members.

“The Ontario Arts Fund directly supports Tom Thomson Art Gallery’s delivery of impactful arts experiences for our community and visitors,” said Aidan Ware, Director and Chief Curator, Tom Thomson Art Gallery. “It allows us to bring important exhibitions, artists, and public programs to Owen Sound while creating opportunities for people of all ages to connect with art, culture, and one another. It provides the stability we need to support Ontario artists and to continue contributing to the cultural and economic vitality of our region. We are deeply grateful for the Ontario Arts Council’s continued investment in the Gallery and in the role that arts organizations play in building vibrant communities across Ontario.”
