Highlighting the importance of modern facilities and equipment in helping students succeed after graduation, Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Andrew Dowie revealed a funding package of $9.65 million for St. Clair College and the University of Windsor.

“This investment in the University of Windsor and St. Clair College will help our students develop critical, job-ready skills, secure good-paying careers, and continue to drive the growth of Windsor-Essex’s local workforce,” said Dowie.

For the University of Windsor, over $4.8 million will be used to renovate the biotech lab, upgrade classrooms, and replace the roof. Additionally, $700,376 will enhance experiential, flexible, and accessible learning in programs that are high-demand and high-skill.

“The University of Windsor is grateful to the Ontario government for its investments to help modernize classrooms, instructional equipment, and campus facilities,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. J. J. Mc Murtry. “UWindsor is committed to ensuring students are prepared to thrive in an evolving labour market, and investments like these strengthen our ability to provide industry-aligned learning opportunities.”

St. Clair College will receive more than $3.6 million for roof replacement, electrical upgrades, and replacing storm and sanitary sump pumps; meanwhile, $425,500 will go toward acquiring new equipment for medical laboratory programs like a hematology analyzer, automated cell counter, and serofuge machine. The architectural technology program will also benefit from new computers.

“Investing in building upkeep and equipment upgrades is essential to supporting student success, especially as the province-wide college system including St. Clair College approaches its 60th anniversary next year,” said St. Clair President Michael Silvaggi. “Like any long-standing institution, our facilities require continuous care to meet modern standards.”

The funding announced for Windsor is part of a larger $242 million initiative by the provincial government aimed at updating classrooms and equipment at publicly-funded colleges and universities across Ontario.
